Switching Pesach China Dishes Not Used for 12 Months from Meat to Dairy

QUESTION

A family that uses their (flieshig) grandparent’s Pesach china has gone vegetarian. They would like to turn the china dairy. Obviously, they haven’t been used since last Pesach. Any room for to allow this?

ANSWER

Yes they can. They should kasher through iruy and—when it comes to the tureen and serving dishes and possibly the soup bowls (see below), they should ideally wait 12 months from last fleishig use, which means the Pesach after this. The reason to allow this is:

1. We are only going from fleishig to milkhig, so what is balua (absorbed) is taam heter (permissible flavour) to begin

Washing Pareve and Dairy Keilim Together in a Dishwasher

Is there any reason not to wash pareve keilim alongside gendered keilim in a dishwasher? That is, if we use our dishwasher for dairy, are there any consequences from washing pareve pots or casseroles, etc. in the dishwasher along with the dairy items?

ANSWER

If there’s no be’ein it’s obviously not a problem. It is all nat bat nat. If there is be’ein then if the milkhig is not touching the pareve plate then also not a problem. It becomes nat bar nat in the water which then won’t transfer to the pareve keli. The only issue is if the milkhig keilim are directly on the pareve plate and they

Meat Deep Fryer for Pareve to Be Eaten With Dairy

QUESTION

What do you think about using a fleishig deep fryer at an event that hasn’t been used in a week with new oil for deep frying pareve things where dairy will be separately served? The event is a drive through where people will pick up pizza and then a few minutes later pick up something deep fried.

ANSWER

If we were to ignore the be’ein, then the rule is that a fleishig or milkhig keli eino ben yomo can be used lekhatchilah for something pareve, even if one is going
